DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING - PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF THESIS PROPOSAL ON OCTOBER 4TH , AT 14:30 PM, IN THE SEMINAR ROOM OF BUILDING VII, THE PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF ANA MARTIN'S THESIS PROPOSAL TOOK PLACE

During the session, Ana Martins presented her research to the Thesis Accompanying Committee (CAT) with the title: “Human-like communication in Conversational Agents for Delivering Health Interventions after Cardiothoracic Surgery”.

Ana Martins’s research addresses the use of conversational agents, or chatbots, with human-like communication abilities, to provide healthcare interventions to patients who have undergone cardiothoracic surgery (such as heart or lung surgery). The main objective is to improve post-operative follow-up and promote patient recovery by offering ongoing support, monitoring and personalized recommendations.

The presentation covered the main objectives, the chosen methodology, and the expected results, providing a space for discussion and evaluation by CAT members.

The session also provided a great chance for sharing knowledge and validating the research efforts undertaken up to this point. Ana Martin’s thesis is poised to make substantial contributions to understanding the balance between AI automation and patient safety, with a focus on ensuring that agents are reliable, accurate, and privacy-conscious in sensitive healthcare environments.
